Seim Reap & Angkor Wat

Cambodia is an fascinating country with a lot of recent history.

Here's a quick look into my favourite spots.

Recommend time in Cambodia is 12/14 days

Estimated minimum cost £200 per week

Each place follows from the last assuming you have flown into Siem Reap or come from Bangkok, if you have entered from Vietnam you will want to work through from bottom to top.

Seim Reap & Angkor Wat | Battambang | Sihanoukville & Koh Rong | Phnom Penh

Entry: Purchase a visa on arrival (land & air). They use USD and it's useful to have cash.

Accommodation: Easy to find you can turn up and find a place to stay, if you want to book check out suggestions on our accommodation page

Getting round: From place the place buses are easy to use, while in a location tuck tucks or walking.

Food: Everywhere has easy to access local food or western food at low prices. I always suggest trying as much local food as possible.

TOP TIP: Don't do drugs, but if you do don't do too much!

Seim Reap & Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is definitely the most incredible ruins I have ever been to. Located in Siem Reap all you need is a tuck tuck driver for day of exploring the ruins, just be prepared for an early start. Oh, and unlike me make sure you've got at least a short sleeve top on or you won't be allowed inside.

Top Things:    Ankor Wat Park | Explore the town

Battambang
Battambang

Battambang as a city doesn't have much but I absolutely loved it. Get just outside the city to see temples, the bamboo train, bat caves and more. If you're interested in Cambodia's history it was also one of the places effected by Pol Pot. I was fortunate enough to get a fantastic tuck tuck driver who took us to all the best spots and even an illegal local gambling event (fish fighting) which was so interesting to see the locals in action.

Top Things: Bat Cave | Bamboo Train | Temple | Killing Cave

Sihanoukville & Koh Rong

Sihanoukville is a place personal I won't be rushing back to, lots of signs in hotels saying no sex with minors immediately rings alarm bells. There were a few suspect old European men around but saying that I didn't see anything unsavory.

Top things: Chilling on the beach | Little cinema rooms

Koh Rong is a lovely little island off the coast which comes highly recommended, unfortunately it was pretty cloudy the days I was there and I was really ill and not in the mood so the photos aren't good. If you're looking for a quiet island steer clear of the main strip as you come off the boat and go and find a more scheduled spot, there are a lot of drugs floating around on the main strip. One thing to note is there is glow in the dark plankton which is freaking awesome but impossible to photograph!

Top things: Night boat for plankton | Beach visits/Island exploring

Sihanoukville & Koh Rong
Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh

In Phnom Penh it's impossible not to get caught up in the history of Cambodia, the Pol Pot regime was horrific and you can really get a feel of it going round some of the places in Phnom Penh. Beyond that they seem to make a lot of money from tourists firing guns.
